A two day trek through the Xe Pian National Biodiversity Conservation Area, considered one of the most important protected areas in Laos for its flora and fauna, including rare Gibbons. The 2 night will be at an eco-lodge over looking Xe Pian.

Itinerary
Day 1 Pakse - Phalaibok - Ta Ong (B/L/D)

8am departure from Pakse to Phalaibok village where you will meet your local village guide who will explain about the forest while you start your trek to Ta Ong. You will be shown the various trees and flora which are used for different medicinal purposes and they will show you signs of wildlife and birds.

On the way enjoy a picnic lunch. Once arriving at Ta Ong you can relax in the comfortable bungalow which doubles as a Homestay / Community lodge. It is about 100m from Ta Ong village and quite cosy with a balcony overlooking the dense Xe Pian forest. Ta Ong is an ethnic Lave village, and the villagers speak the Khmer language as well as Laos they have their own a unique and distinct culture and traditions.

Enjoy dinner with the villagers you can try chicken soup, sticky rice or even chili paste, don't worry though there will be some western luxuries for you if you can't handle the local cuisine. Take in the surroundings before settling in too sleep and enjoy a well deserved rest.

Day 2 Ta Ong - Nong Ping - Pakse (B/L)

05:00 - Wake up early in the morning for a walk in the forest close to the village, look out for several different kinds of birds feeding from the trees and (if you are lucky) you may have the chance to listen or even to spot the endangered species of Yellow-cheeked Gibbons.

07:00 - Enjoy breakfast at your guesthouse and start the trek back to Phalaibok through a different trail in the forest. Take a forest trail to the top of a hill where you will have a breathtaking view of the dense forest and valleys of Xe Pian Natural Park.

On arrival in Nong Pin walk through this village to reach the Ta' Euang River and take a 1-hour boat ride back to Phalaibok village, this is a great opportunity to see birds along the river. In Phalaibok village relax and enjoy a well deserved late lunch before driving the short distance to Ban Kiat Ngong Eco-lodge on the edge of the Xe Pian, spend the evening enjoying the stunning area at the viewpoint or from your bungalow.

What to Bring for the Trek

Please be prepared to walk through bushes and streams. It is recommended that you wear long pants and a shirt (dark colours preferable) that covers you shoulders. Carry your valuables in a plastic bag to protect them from water during the canoe ride. Bring one change of clothes, sandals for the village, good shoes for hiking, mosquito repellent, a flashlight (as there is no electricity in the village), sunscreen and a hat. Women should bring a sarong for public bathing. Blankets, mosquito nets, food and water are provided.
