Mr Pan - Owner & Manager
Mr Pan speaks excellent English and has a wealth of knowledge about the local area and activities to do.
With an interesting life story so far, Mr Pan was born in Savannakhet and worked as a soldier upon graduation. After leaving the military, Pan moved south to Pakse and begun his career in the tourism industry as a tuk tuk driver, predominantly for tourists. Through driving tuk tuks by day and studying at night, Pan developed his English language skills and drove passengers as far south as the 4,000 Islands. On one such occasion, a few years ago now, an 86 year old Japanese tourist chartered Mr Pan and his tuk tuk for his travels south. Together they explored the 4,000 Islands and developed quite a bond, with Mr Pan learning Japanese as he went.
Pan's mother-in-law gave Pan and his family her land on Don Khone to start a guest house, but without the funds to do so, this land was nothing to Mr Pan until his newly acquainted Japanese friend provided much needed support to build the guest house Mr Pan's extended family dreamed of. Today, this is Pan's guest house which provides guests with quality bungalows. It was the help of Pan's Japanese friend that has laid the path to success and appreciation for and today Mr Pan is proud to show that the extension of Pan's guest house with a new building is through his own hard work and money.
A photo of Pan's 86 year old Japanese friend can be found in the restaurant with Mr Pan showing endless appreciation to such a kind act and a good friend.
Environment and Social contributions.
Pan's Guest House takes a number of measures that helps the environment as well as the local community.
Environment:
Each bungalow is fit with a gauze skylight around the top of the walls; this adds natural light and fresh air reducing the need for electric lighting and fan/air conditioners.
In the restaurant bathroom, a pipe is used to collect rain water to flush the toilet.
Social:
The village chief and government of Don Khone encourages businesses on the island to help the local community through donations to the schools and temples. Over the past 3 years, Pan's Guest House has donated 10 million Kip towards these projects which has seen the primary school be rebuilt.
